Know The People &
Their Culture Through Food

Cultural Culinary Program

Culture Generation 501(c)(3) is extremely grateful for each opportunity that comes our way, as they are all chances to serve our community and give hope.

During COVID-19, many small mom-and-pop ethnic shops struggled to survive due to a lack of customers. This situation was very disheartening. Recognizing this challenge, chef Arokiasamy decided to address it by promoting these remaining stores to the general public, seeking their support to sustain them. She led people to these stores, sharing the value of their food culture and ingredients that they could purchase and learn to use in their homes. This knowledge allowed the tour participants to understand how to use these cultural ingredients to make their own cuisine more flavorful.

As a result, food started moving off the shelves at these mom-and-pop stores, helping the owners meet their expenses. The gratitude expressed by the shop owners was profound, leaving a lasting impression on me and solidifying chef Arokiasamy’s role as The Kent Cultural Food Ambassador. She is dedicated to sharing the hidden culinary treasures of Kent with the public through foodways.

Supporting these ethnic food stores not only preserves cultural heritage but also promotes economic sustainability for minority business owners particularly women of color.

Partnering with us financially will enable us to continue promoting the unique culinary experiences that enrich our community through these special tours. We want to thank for your support!
